Lydia P. Jackson

lydiapjackson-nhs2019Lydia Patrice Jackson (born March 5, 1960) is a Democratic former member of the Louisiana State Senate from Shreveport, Louisiana.  She represented District 39 in Caddo Parish in the far northwestern corner of her state from 2004 to 2012.

From 2000 to 2004, she was the first African American to hold the District 2 seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Prior to 1997, she was an aide in the District of Columbia to Democratic former U.S. Senator J. Bennett Johnson, Jr.[1] She is a graduate of Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Jackson graduated from Radcliffe College, the female attachment to Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Outside the legislature, Jackson is a former research coordinator for Marshall Sigler, Inc.  Her father, Alphonse J. Jackson of Shreveport, was an educator, a former member of the Louisiana House, and one of the ten founders of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus.

Lydia is a Vice President and CRA Business Development Officer for Capital One Bank.  She works primarily in the bank’s South Central Region which includes markets in Louisiana and Texas.

Ms. Jackson is responsible for initiating partnerships with community-based organizations, government agencies and other groups to facilitate opportunities for the expansion of bank products and services and the production and rehabilitation of affordable housing.  She also coordinates the bank’s development activities in rural communities across the nation.  Additionally, she manages the operations of the Capital One CDC, a nonprofit bank subsidiary that provides construction financing for affordable, single family development projects in LA and TX.
