Tribute to General Colin Powell Jr.

We Mourn the Loss of General Colin Luther Powell, Jr.

We, the National Executive Board of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporation and our membership offer our sincere condolences to the family of General Colin Luther Powell.  Born in 1937 in Harlem, New York to immigrant parents of Jamaican descent, he served this country with dignity and honor.

General Powell was a statesman and trailblazer of the highest quality who served this country for over forty years, serving as National Security Advisor, Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Secretary of State.  He began his illustrious career as a member of the R. O. T. C, serving in the Armed Forces for over 35 years.  He served as a trusted leader, who led with authenticity and integrity.  In doing so, General Powell lived by a belief that became know as the Powell Doctrine on military operations:  Identify clear political objectives, gain public support and use decisive and overwhelming force to defeat enemy forces.

He was the recipient of many military and civilian awards and decorations, including two Presidential Medals of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.  He also had numerous schools and institutions named in his honor.

Today, the world lost an American hero, who rose through the ranks to become one of the most trusted leaders in the world.  Rest in Peace!
