PRESS RELEASE

February 9, 2020
Sorors,

It is my pleasure to announce that Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. has entered into a partnership with the United States Census Bureau. As an external partner, we will assist in their effort to raise awareness to ensure that the members of our communities are represented in the U.S. Census count.  Through this partnership, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. seeks to make an impact by ensuring that we have a complete and accurate count of the people in our community.  We will support this effort on a national, regional and local level.  To participate in the effort, we have been granted the right to use the census logo in our effort to raise awareness of the U. S. Census.

National Participation:  We will display the Census logo and information on our website and Facebook page.  We will also direct information and sources of support to the membership.

Regional Participation:  We ask that each Regional Director support this effort by displaying the logo and information.  We also asked them to provide a table at their regional conferences to display Census materials.

Local Chapter Participation:  We ask chapters to also display the logo and information.  You will also have the option to participate in a recruitment drive, to help recruit workers for Census 2020.  You may also opt to distribute literature to the community and/or host workshops in your area.  The Census Bureau in your area will provide speakers if needed.

SOME IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

*January 21: The U.S. Census Bureau starts counting the population in remote Alaska.

*March 12 – 20: Households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail.

*March 30 – April 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness over these three days.

*April 1: Census Day is observed nationwide. By this date, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you should respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. When you respond to the census, you’ll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020.

*April: Census takers will begin visiting.  Census takers also begin conducting quality check interviews to help ensure an accurate count.

*May – July: Census takers will begin visiting homes that haven’t responded to the 2020 Census to help make sure everyone is counted.
